WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Kid

Learn2code combines non-computer based classroom learning activities with computer-based activities. The pupils learn the principles of logical thinking, writing algorithms, de-bugging and loops, while taking part in fun activities.

We emphasise taking control of technology and not letting technology take control of you. We encourage greater responsibility when using technology.

The learning is enhanced through discovery, play and enquiry. We also try, where possible to involve young talented coders from the local area to tell their stories and inspire the students.

Kid

Games have always been an important part of the learning process and of society as a whole. The Learn2code course revolves around the process of designing, making and coding games. The students work through the making of two fully playable games on the journey to learning the skill set required to fulfil curriculum requirements.Once the students have mastered the skills needed to build games they form small companies with the task of creating a new game. Combining learning to code with an element of enterprise we have found to be extremely effective. During this experience of business the students learn creative thinking techniques, game design basics and team work.

Kid

The course mainly uses the Scratch software created by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (https://scratch.mit.edu/) Scratch uses colourful blocks containing code that are snapped together to form an algorithm. The games created on this platform can be shared on the scratch website and played the world over.

Our Mission

WHAT'S OUR GOAL
Our mission is to help young people to excel in the world of Digital Creative Industries. We aim to harness game makers, web developers, the makers and CGI creators in the local community to tell their stories and inspire young people to follow in their footsteps. Our goal is to have a series of top quality courses enhanced with amazing support materials and delivered in schools by trained Digital Ambassadors and Lead Educators. These interventions can either be a stop gap while the teacher becomes familiar with skills required to teach coding or an ongoing delivery mechanism for the curriculum in your school.
We are aware that digital technology changes and evolves at a frightening rate and that often the students in our schools who have time to learn by playing with these technologies soon know more that the busy teacher. With our support we hope your school will be able to facilitate the stretching of the techno wizards and give confidence to the technophobes without increasing the stress of the staff!
